Performance Management

Figure
2: Beyond Performance Measurement (by Neely)
Until and unless the data is acted upon, there is
no value in measuring (apart from perhaps a degree of ‘comfort’, if
the measure happens to be showing a serendipitously positive trend). If
you want to get real value from your measurement system, someone,
somewhere has got to act on the data that the measurement system is
generating (Neely, 2002).
Data from the measurement system needs to be analyzed. Analysts have to
actually mine the data and understand what messages it contains for the
organization – seeking to identify trends, patterns and correlations
across the separate data sets. Then someone has to explore what the
insights are and what they mean for the organization. They have to make
judgments about what has to be changed in the business and how it can be
changed (Neely, 2002).
